The Wolverton Light Orchestra provides an opportunity for musicians to play light and popular music.
We meet in the West End Church, Wolverton every Tuesday at 7.30 pm during term time.
The WLO has an open membership policy and welcomes new players as full members subject to playing ability and an opportunity being available as explained in section 3 of the constitution. This policy is intended as a practical guide and does not form part of nor supersede any part of the WLO constitution.
We generally have vacancies for players in all string sections, and we are happy to consider players of grade 5/6 (or equivalent experience) and above. All wind, brass and percussion players are appointed on an individual basis only when a specific vacancy exists, and players seeking any of these positions would be expected to have reached a high standard.
Charity Fundraising
A particular objective of the orchestra is to raise money for local and national charities. Charities helped have included:
Willen Hospice
Macmillan Cancer Care
Marie Curie
CLIC Sargent
to name just a few. We have a more detailed page about the charities we are proud to have helped.

The orchestra has quite a history that can be traced back to nearly 100 years. Initially, it was the Frank Brooks Orchestra, later becoming known as the Wolverton Light Orchestra in 1977.
Since 1995 it has been under the musical direction of Mike Crofts.
We are always keen to expand our knowledge about the history of the Wolverton Light Orchestra, “Frank Brooks and his Orchestra”, or the Frank Brooks Orchestra. If you have newspaper clippings, photographs or information, please get in touch.
